TEENS

Adolescence is a challenging stage of life, both for the teen and the parent. It is a time when teens ask the question "Who am I?"

According to psychologist Erik Erikson, adolescence is a time of facing an”Identity crisis”. Parents face the difficult task of helping their child navigate this “crisis”.

During adolescence teens try on many hats in the search for self.  They are faced with a variety of choices and decisions while seeking autonomy and independence.  During the teen years there will be challenges both inherent to the stages of adolescence as well as those specific to individual circumstances. A significant part of my practice is working with adolescents as they develop a more autonomous sense of self.

Some of the major issues I help teens address include:

  • Relationships
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Identity
  • Self esteem
  • Impulse control
  • Substance use
  • Unhealthy coping
  • Parent /teen relationship difficulties
  • Divorce
  • Grief and loss

In addition to my individual therapy with adolescents, I guide parents during this time of renegotiation of roles. I help parents to understand the issues teens face today and to support parents in successfully navigating the adolescent years.

Together we can reconcile traditional and contemporary values, develop more effective parent child communication, and discover solutions to your family’s challenges.

Some of the issues I help parents address include:

  • Parent/teen communication
  • Adolescent development
  • Discipline and boundary setting
  • Technology
  • Divorce
  • Grief and loss
  • Neurological changes
